Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga that targets the deeper connective tissues of the body. Poses are held for longer periods of time (anywhere from 3-10 minutes), facilitating a more meditative experience.
By approaching the body from a softer, more passive place, we can go deeper into the experience than we normally would in tension-focused, faster movement practices.
It is an excellent complementary practice to more ‘yang’-type activities – e.g., hatha/vinyasa/hot yoga, sport, running, excessive ‘busy-ness’ – bringing balance and harmony within our bodies.
