Feng Shui, Colour and Essential Oils

Edel has designed this two hour free workshop especially for the Front Line Staff open weekend as her Thank you to all of you. All going well this workshop will take place on Sunday the 19th of July at 10am. We are now taking names.

Home as an extension of ourselves: feng shui, colour and essential oils to clear stagnant energy, create balance and uplift and invigorate every area of our lives.

Our homes are an extension of ourselves, our surroundings are our outer skin. When we consider our internal and external worlds both are one, not separate but energetically entwined, each interconnected with the other; each breathing the energy of the other in, like an in-hale and exhale; we experience our spaces as a reflection of our inner selves.

In this presentation we will consider

  • Feng shui: a way of looking at our spaces from this energetic point of view, mirroring the dynamic ever changing balance found in nature into our built environment so that it fully supports us as we live our lives.
  • Colour colour and sound are aspects of the same vibrational world. Colour impacts us on an energetic level; physically as well as on an emotional and spiritual level. We will explore the 7 colour spectrum in both our internal and external environments, we will do a chakra balancing meditation and look at ways to support ourselves with colour in our physical environment.
  • Essential oils are our plant allies. We will look at ways to incorporate them into our daily lives in our environment to cleanse, balance and uplift our energy, filling our environment with supportive fragrant chi.

A journey of self-awareness

A Mindful Journey of Self Awareness

The journey comprises of Hypno-Meditations to increase awareness and facilitate the process of unfolding the ‘Self’. The purpose of which is to enable a you to step forward along a path towards wholeness. As we learn to Witness and be Mindful our awareness increases, this frees us from being stuck in a reactive mode and allows us to cut through the veils of illusion that keeps us from achieving wholeness. The path of Hypno-Meditation utilising Mindfulness, enables a you to raise your awareness and individuate along the path of wholeness.

Along any path of understanding “Who am I” and of integration towards authenticity and individuation, the first step is to increase AWARENESS at both levels; conscious and subconscious.

Vispassana (Mindfulness) mediation is one of India’s most ancient techniques of meditation, a process of Self-transformation through mindful self observation (builds awareness). It focuses on the deep interconnection between mind and body. It is this observation-based, self-exploratory journey to the common root of mind and body that dissolves mental impurity, resulting in a balanced mind full of love and compassion.  Life becomes characterised by increased awareness, non-delusion, self-control and peace.

Hypno-meditation is a unique combination of hypnosis and meditation which enables self awareness and a vehicle to heal the mindbody as well as to achieve goals through reflection and choice. A natural powerful tool, which enables benevolent and sustainable changes. The more you practice hypno-meditation, the more you speak directly and align with Mind as a whole, building new neural pathways via the conscious and subconscious. Thus enabling you to make empowered choices, growing as an individual in mind, body and soul, creating a state of healthy mind and body.

Aches and pains during pregnancy is part and parcel of joy of pregnancy

Aches and pains during pregnancy is part and parcel of joy of pregnancy. Our body is changing and adapting to accommodate the growing foetus by relaxing our muscles and ligaments. The stretching of ligaments creates more space between pelvic bones and spine, and loosely held bones are difficult to move over/with each other, which makes movements clumsy and painful.

Starting from 1st trimester till last trimester, pregnant women experience diff ..

Headaches are one of the most common pregnancy complaints. Try to get plenty of rest, and practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing.

Cramping typically occurs when the uterus expands, causing the ligaments and muscles that support it to stretch. One should not be worried about the minor cramps that happen every now and then. Stretching can be due to round ligament pull caused by growing uterus, and gives sharp piercing or dull pulling feeling. Some women experience sharp, piercing pain in the vagina. Try relaxation exercises. Place a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel on the ache. Make sure you get plenty of fluids. Take warm water bath. All the above measures will reduce these pains. However, consult doctor if you still don’t get the desired relief or pains occur in moderate intensity along with other symptoms.

Leg cramping and restless-leg syndrome is common in the third trimester. Cramping can occur as a result of too much phosphorus and too little calcium in the body. Restless-leg syndrome, also known as the overwhelming need to constantly move your leg, can be a symptom of an iron or folic acid deficiency. An uncomfortable sensation in the legs, a strong urge to move one or both legs or night-time leg twitching are frequent symptoms of restless-leg syndrome
If you feel tingling or numbness in your hands during pregnancy, it could be carpal-tunnel syndrome. This condition is normally associated with repetitive hand movements, but extra fluid and swelling during pregnancy can also cause these symptoms.

Pregnancy rib pain can be the result of your baby physically kicking you in the ribs, stretching out under the ribs, or just moving by your ribs. The pain can also be caused by the muscles stretching out. In rare cases, it might be caused by a ..

Women frequently experience hip pain as the connective tissue loosens and stretches. Lower back pain can also occur along with hip pain, as posture changes may cause you to lean more toward one side or another. Sleeping on your side with a pillow between your legs may help to relieve this pain because it opens the hips slightly.

The coccyx is a joint that’s at the very bottom of your spine. It sits right behind your uterus. Your growing baby pushing against it, hormones, and other issues like constipation can lead to more pain. Often, what feels like lower back pain and hip pain during pregnancy is actually tailbone pain.

While there’s no cure for it, there are some stretches you can do to help ease the pain. If your pain is severe or lasts more than a few days with little change or worsens, see your doctor. Doing gentle exercise, such as yoga with lots of stretching positions, will help keep your muscles loose. It will also help keep both you and the as healthy as possible.

We have some very beneficial therapies and classes available here at River.

If you are looking for advise on which approach is best for you.

Healing with Fennel

Cleansing with Fennel

Fennel has a strong and distinctive smell that can help to suppress your appetite and ease digestive disorders.
Warming and stimulating fennel has a long tradition as a digestive tonic. The seeds of the herb are crushed to give a strongly scented, sweet, peppery oil. Fennel has potent properties. Used sparily, it has an enlivening, energising and revitalising effect on the mind and body.
Fennel’s main action is on the digestion, where it has a regulating and ‘unblocking’ action. It is effective in relieving nausea, indigestion, constipation and flatulence.

Fennel for your Detox regime:
Use fennel to detoxify your body as it acts as a tonic for the kidneys, liver and spleen. It is also a diuretic, promoting the flow of urine and helping to reduce fluid retention in tissues – as such it is especially useful before menstruation. Fennel also regulates periods and stimulates the flow of breast milk in nursing mothers.

Circulation Stimulant:
Stimulate sluggish circulation with fennel to gain relief from the building up of toxins and fluids.
Ease swollen feet:
Cypress acts as a tonic to the circulatory system, complimenting fennel’s ‘movin’ action. Ease puffy, swollen feet and ankles with a massage blend of:
• 5 drops fennel
• 5 drops cypress
• 20ml of grapeseed oil
Relieve painful gout:
Treat gout by gently massaging the affected are with:
• 3 drops fennel
• 6 drops juniper
• 6 drops lemon
• 25mls of grapeseed
this blend stimulate circulation and helps to clear away accumulated toxins.

Detoxifying Fennel:
Make use of fennel’s diurectic action to clean your urinary system.
Water Rentention:
Relieve symptoms of bloatedness due to water retention by massaging the abdomen and lower back with a blend of:
• 3 drops fennel
• 5 drops juniper
• 10 drops lemon
• 2 drops peppermint
• 25mls of sweet almond.
A massage blend of the following oils aids lymphatic drainage of the tissues.
• 3 drops of clary sage
• 6 drops of fennel
• 2 drops of geranium
• 2 drops of rosemary
• 25mls of grapeseed.
Diurectic Bath:
Aid your body’s ability to detox by adding to your bath water:
• 2 drops of fennel
• 3 drops of lemon
• 3 drops of juniper
Digestive Aid:
Tone, soothe and regulate the body’s digestive processes with fennel.
Ease Gut Cramps:
For relief from digestive cramps, make a warm compress by soaking a flannel in a bowl of water containing:
• 3 drops fennel
• 1 drop peppermint
• 6 drops rosemary
Apply across abdomen and use a hot water bottle to retain heat.

Soothe Indigestion:
Relieve indigestion with a chest and back massage blend containing:
• 3 drops fennel
• 5 drops orange
• 3 drops sage
• 25ml grapeseed
All three of these essential oils work to calm and balance the digestion- but don’t massage immediately after eating as the massage itself can disrupt digestion.

Oestrogen substitute:
Fennel is a natural source of a plant hormone that mimics the female hormone oestrogen.
Regulate Periods:
To treat irregular periods, apply a compress containing the following oils added to a bowl of water to the abdomen.
• 2 drops basil
• 2 drops fennel
• 2 drops Melissa
As a general tonic for the female reproductive system, massage the stomach and back with
• 4 drops cypress
• 4 drops of clary sage
• 2 drops fennel
• 30ml of sweet almond
Nursing Mothers:
Promote the flow of breast milk by massaging the breasts with:
• 5 drops of fennel
• 30ml of sweet almond.
• BE SURE TO REMOVE OIL BEFORE FEEDING.

Your Health is your Wealth

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, according to World Health Organization (WHO). Indeed, health is wealth. Every now and then, it is important to remind ourselves that we need to take good care of ourselves. There is a reason to stay healthy. Being healthy can decrease developing medical conditions.

As the WHO defines health, remaining healthy means a holistic well-being. Caring for our minds is as important and crucial as caring for our bodies. One cannot be healthy without the other.

For this 2018, let us love ourselves more by considering these tips:

  • Visit your GP, eye doctor and dentist for regular check-ups
  • Be faithful in taking your medicines and also drink vitamins
  • Protect your skin especially from the sun
  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat healthy
  • Drink more water and fewer sugary drinks
  • Get enough sleep
  • Practice safe sex
  • Don’t smoke, limit alcohol intake and avoid drugs
  • Wash your hands – viruses are spread through contact
  • Practice self-care (no need to feel guilty)
  • Love yourself more and others too
  • Be friendly and be kind
  • Listen to others
  • Talk and share your feelings
  • Say “I love you,” “Thank you,” “Please” more often
  • Have fun – relax and rest
  • Call a friend
  • Learn something a new
  • Balance your time between work and play
  • Count your blessings and be grateful
  • Ask for help when needed

Manifest the birth you deserve

Manifest The Birth You Deserve:

For my whole life, I have been practicing “The Law of Attraction”. Some might call this “The Secret” but when I am around it is no secret. I have spread this amazing information around and it has changed family and friend’s life for the better. It gave me and them some control over their outside life. Most people think that our family, relationships, home, career, happiness is something that we are given and we can’t change – (Sorry! We can’t change our family, but we can manifest how our relationship with them is!). The tools I learnt over the years have shaped my life as I know it and have shaped my future – which excited me! So it was a no-brainer that I would look at this more in depth when it comes to my passion – Midwifery and Birth.

A quick outline of the Law of Attraction and how it works:

The thoughts we put out into the universe shape our outside world.

  • Like attracts like.
  • Positivity brings positivity.
  • Thoughts become things.

That all sounds very nice and fluffy but how do we actually put it in to action?

The first step is to ASK:

When we ask the universe for a very clear thing, whether that might be the dream job, the dream man, or money in your bank account the law of attraction says ‘Ask and you shall receive’ and gives you exactly that that you put all your focus on. But here is the catch, in our everyday life we don’t ask for what we want, we usually talk and think about that which we don’t want. For example, ‘Oh god, I am so scared to give birth, I am going to be in a state, I am not going to be able for this, I need the epidural as soon as I get my first contraction’. And the universe says ‘Ask and you shall receive’.

We need to change our language but in particular our thoughts when it comes to birth. Focusing more on thoughts and phrases for example.

‘My body knows how to birth my baby’

‘I am a strong and confident woman, my body knows exactly what to do’

‘I feel completely in control of my amazing birth’

The second step is to BELIEVE:

The real magic from manifesting comes from this part. Belief! We need to believe with every cell in our amazing body that these affirmations and thoughts are true. When you say your affirmations at first you will think that you are going crazy. The more you say them and the more you feel the belief building in your energy that is when the power of the manifestation works.

Visualise yourself with all your mind and body having the most wonderful birth, something that you would of never imagined. Imagine yourself full of confidence during your labour and fully in control and what that feels like. My favourite visualisation to do is to visualise how you feel when it is all over and you have your wonderful healthy baby in your arms, and your supportive birthing partner with you. Fully immerse yourself in this blissful feeling of how well you did, and how amazing you are. Even go as far as visualising details of your baby like, their smells, and tiny fingers and toes!

The final step – the easiest one, is to RECEIVE:

Personally, my favourite!

What an amazing feeling when you receive your manifestations. It helps to look up videos on the Law of Attraction from amazing successful people like Oprah Winfrey that has used this tool with amazing benefit.

Allow yourself to receive all of the abundance and happiness you deserve!

You can do this!!

Lots of Love,

S
