Spring has sprung ish!


As I sit here writing this, there is a red weather warning going on outside. Definitely not the start of spring that I was expecting.
Sometimes it takes a national emergency warning to make us stop the every day hustle and bustle and go back to just being. I have had three snowball fights, copious amounts of tea, endless giggles with my kids and still managed to get the newsletter done, website updated, clients scheduled for next weeks appointments and once this is complete it will be time to light the fire and sit on the couch with my kids and my very patient husband and chill.
To me, this is not a bad start to Sping.

Your Health is your Wealth

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, according to World Health Organization (WHO). Indeed, health is wealth. Every now and then, it is important to remind ourselves that we need to take good care of ourselves. There is a reason to stay healthy. Being healthy can decrease developing medical conditions.

As the WHO defines health, remaining healthy means a holistic well-being. Caring for our minds is as important and crucial as caring for our bodies. One cannot be healthy without the other.

For this 2018, let us love ourselves more by considering these tips:

  • Visit your GP, eye doctor and dentist for regular check-ups
  • Be faithful in taking your medicines and also drink vitamins
  • Protect your skin especially from the sun
  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat healthy
  • Drink more water and fewer sugary drinks
  • Get enough sleep
  • Practice safe sex
  • Don’t smoke, limit alcohol intake and avoid drugs
  • Wash your hands – viruses are spread through contact
  • Practice self-care (no need to feel guilty)
  • Love yourself more and others too
  • Be friendly and be kind
  • Listen to others
  • Talk and share your feelings
  • Say “I love you,” “Thank you,” “Please” more often
  • Have fun – relax and rest
  • Call a friend
  • Learn something a new
  • Balance your time between work and play
  • Count your blessings and be grateful
  • Ask for help when needed

It’ time to look after yourself

One of my favorite parts of New Years is throwing away the old calendar and getting to start anew. All the hopes, dreams, and fantasies of a new life seem so tangible at New Years, don’t they?

Well, have I got news for you.

According to a survey by Reuters only a measly 3% of people actually follow through with their big New Year’s resolutions. And psychologists believe that this failure to follow through on bold and brilliant New Year’s resolutions by 97% of us can actually lead to diminished self esteem and lack of motivation in the months to come.

Does this mean that the remaining 97% of us who threw ideas in the till for positive change are all losers who cannot commit to anything? Absolutely not! 

One of the reasons I ceased making resolutions is quite simply because I don’t believe that there is one specific day so enlightened that you can change your entire world in the blink of an eye. I don’t believe that putting all your eggs in the New Year’s basket is necessarily the best way to make changes in your life. Truth is, you can blow in the winds of change any day of week, any month of the year, any hour of the day – if you so choose.

I DO believe that New Years should be a time of reflection. What was the last year like for me? What are the things I did right? What are the things I did wrong? Where is there room for improvement and positive change? What are some of the things I would like to continue to do? What am I proud of, and what do I wish I could change? Am I living the best life possible, and if not – what are three simple changes I could make to head in that direction?

To me, the New Year is about taking inventory and making a plan. Not just a firm resolution which you are certain to break; that you will never again sink your teeth into a sugary donut, or guzzle down an ice-cold Coca Cola on a hot summer day – but a plan that you will eat two less donuts per week, and only enjoy one soda every other day.

Why set yourself up to fail? The last thing you want to do is to feel like a deflated balloon.

Instead, start slowly by asking yourself the questions above. Write down your answers and take baby steps toward achieving your goals. The expression “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” rings true when it comes to the beginning of the New Year – and nothing in your life should be all or nothing. If it is, chances are you are setting yourself up to feel guilty or bad down the road.

We can not believe that the big man with the bright red suit will be visiting soon, it has been another amazing year here at the centre.
We had our open day on Saturday, it was such a lovely day meeting new people and showing them around their new Holistic Home.

Kinesio-taping – why you need this in your life!

So you may be wondering, ‘what is this Kinesio-taping thing all about’?

 

Well, put in simple terms, Kinesio-taping is the application of a specific form of tape/sports tape in order to facilitate the body’s natural healing process, providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.

 

The tape is applied to the skin by a specifically trained therapist, usually in conjunction with another therapy, massage for example.

The beauty of Kinesio-tape is it’s versatility. It is safe for all ages and can be left on the skin for several days.

It can be applied to enhance your Lymphatic Drainage treatment, whether you are having MLD (Manual Lymph Drainage) for treatment of Lymphedema, sports injuries or swollen ankles during pregnancy.

It’s also very beneficial for treating repetitive strain injuries, in conjunction with deep tissue massage.

And for pain management it can provide instant relief in many cases, a wonderful alternative to pain killers and anti-inflammatories (where appropriate).

 

As a therapist with many years experience in massage, MLD, yoga and nutrition, I am always learning and adding to my skill-set in order to provide the very best care for my clients. So it is my pleasure to be able to add this very effective technique to the list. On a case-by-case basis I can asses which combination of the above therapies is most suitable for your injury/ongoing issue.

Hi everyone! My name is Joanita. I am honoured to be your Certified Yoga Teacher!

As a Yogi, I am a seeker! I was attracted to yoga because a lot of things in the world didn’t make sense and yoga has always brought peace, calmness in me and above all it unites my mind and my body. Practicing Hatha yoga is really there to prepare the body and mind for the bigger work in life. My practice keeps my body in good health (now it’s like a fit vehicle ready for purpose).

My every day practice also helps me engage with my breath and feel the energy of life as it unfolds in each moment, on and off my mat.Everything is perfect as it is, there is no need to change anything and this is a big challenge. Rising to this challenge opens up to the promise of yoga – let it go and live life in the present moment, grounding in my natural state of being and with the world around me.

I am a proud mother of three beautiful children and as a qualified yoga teacher I am committed to my daily practice so that my teaching is always up to date. Education through yoga is caring for the development of our entire own being.

My class on Thursday morning will focus on alignment and maintaining good posture, with each class ending with a deep relaxation. Stretching will be subtle and effective while finding comfort in building strength and flexibility. If you are used to experiencing stress then the chances are you don’t  realise the effect it’s having on you.  Use this simple test to see if you are all stressed out.

Sometimes it’s very difficult to work out whether you are suffering from the effects of stress.  If you experience the symptoms frequently enough then you’ll eventually convince yourself that all these are normal feelings, which is dangerous because you will be less likely to deal with them if you don’t see them as harmful.

Monitoring your stress:

A good way to gauge your personal stress levels is to take the test below.  If your results prove positive, however, then the last thing you should do is stress about it!  Now you realise what you’re suffering from you can now works out a plan to address the problem and look forward to a stress-free lifestyle.

Here are some initial tips on how to maintain stress-free living:

  • Manage your time better
  • Improve your communication skills so that you can express what you feel
  • Learn to say “NO”

By meditating, you focus your mind on one relaxing thought for a period of time.  You can focus on your own breathing, an object such as a candle flame, a sound you make or a pleasant you conjure in your mind.  Sit or lie in a quiet place in order to meditate properly.

Manifest the birth you deserve

Manifest The Birth You Deserve:

 

For my whole life, I have been practicing “The Law of Attraction”. Some might call this “The Secret” but when I am around it is no secret. I have spread this amazing information around and it has changed family and friend’s life for the better. It gave me and them some control over their outside life. Most people think that our family, relationships, home, career, happiness is something that we are given and we can’t change – (Sorry! We can’t change our family, but we can manifest how our relationship with them is!). The tools I learnt over the years have shaped my life as I know it and have shaped my future – which excited me! So it was a no-brainer that I would look at this more in depth when it comes to my passion – Midwifery and Birth.

A quick outline of the Law of Attraction and how it works:

The thoughts we put out into the universe shape our outside world.

  • Like attracts like.
  • Positivity brings positivity.
  • Thoughts become things.

That all sounds very nice and fluffy but how do we actually put it in to action?

The first step is to ASK:

When we ask the universe for a very clear thing, whether that might be the dream job, the dream man, or money in your bank account the law of attraction says ‘Ask and you shall receive’ and gives you exactly that that you put all your focus on. But here is the catch, in our everyday life we don’t ask for what we want, we usually talk and think about that which we don’t want. For example, ‘Oh god, I am so scared to give birth, I am going to be in a state, I am not going to be able for this, I need the epidural as soon as I get my first contraction’. And the universe says ‘Ask and you shall receive’.

We need to change our language but in particular our thoughts when it comes to birth. Focusing more on thoughts and phrases for example.

‘My body knows how to birth my baby’

‘I am a strong and confident woman, my body knows exactly what to do’

‘I feel completely in control of my amazing birth’

 

The second step is to BELIEVE:

The real magic from manifesting comes from this part. Belief! We need to believe with every cell in our amazing body that these affirmations and thoughts are true. When you say your affirmations at first you will think that you are going crazy. The more you say them and the more you feel the belief building in your energy that is when the power of the manifestation works.

Visualise yourself with all your mind and body having the most wonderful birth, something that you would of never imagined. Imagine yourself full of confidence during your labour and fully in control and what that feels like. My favourite visualisation to do is to visualise how you feel when it is all over and you have your wonderful healthy baby in your arms, and your supportive birthing partner with you. Fully immerse yourself in this blissful feeling of how well you did, and how amazing you are. Even go as far as visualising details of your baby like, their smells, and tiny fingers and toes!

 

The final step – the easiest one, is to RECEIVE:

Personally, my favourite!

What an amazing feeling when you receive your manifestations. It helps to look up videos on the Law of Attraction from amazing successful people like Oprah Winfrey that has used this tool with amazing benefit.

Allow yourself to receive all of the abundance and happiness you deserve!

Hello,

So this edition is a little late! It has been such a busy month here at the centre, with the launch of the new website and a hugh increase in bookings. Spring has certainly arrived as people are looking for some rest and rejuvenation. We have met some wonderful clients and look forward to welcoming more through our doors during April.
I hope everyone is smiling on this beautiful Saturday.  We have a full house today, Lorraine is over teaching her course on how to teach children meditation and mindfulness, Barbara is on her way in to teach about all things nutrition and boosting energy, Anna, Zuleika, Ruth and Katie are here looking after some lovely clients and me, well I’m writing this looking out at the sunshine and smiling.
