Aromatherapy for your Memory

Aromatherapy for Waking your mind.

Modern life often overloads your mind with information and causes mental fatigue.

Refresh your cognitive faculties with stimulating aromatherapy oils.

 

 

 

The most common causes of mental fatigue are overwork and stress, which can make your mind feel deadened by too much stimulation.  This often results from studying for exams, working long hours, a chaotic home life, or just performing tasks.

Temporary solutions:
Apart from taking regular breaks to avoid overworking your mind, essential oils can help ensure you stay focused and do not overload yourself.  These should only be used in short term, for when you need immediate relief.  Long term, you need to consider other factors such as getting enough sleep, exercise and taking time out.  The best ways to use oils to awaken your mind are through inhalation, vaporisers and applying to pulse points.

Blending Oils for waking your mind.

All of these blends should be made using 35ml of the base oil of your choice and later dispatched into easy-to-carry bottles.

Overcoming Mental Fatigue:

2 drops Basil

2 drops peppermint

2 drops rosemary

4 drops cypress

Like everyone, you’ll experience periods in your life when you have to apply yourself to the max and your mind becomes mentally fatigued.  As work is often unavoidable, you have to take steps to keep your mind fresh and alert

1.       Steam inhalation is a good way to do this, as it invigorates you and gets the oils into your system quickly.  You’ll get the full benefits of their effects as soon as possible.

2.       When you are away from home put a few drops of the blend on a tissue or apply to your pulse pints when you need fast relief.

Revision Blend:

5 drops lime

2 drops rosemary

3 drops frankincense

Studying for exams is a very taxing process, especially as you get older and lose the habit of study.  Revision requires mental alertness and the ability to maintain focused concentration; using the revision blend while studying will help you to maintain mental alertness.

1.       A vaporiser will keep the atmosphere in your study environment fresh and its fragrance will continually stimulate your mind, encouraging you to pass your exams.

2.       On the actual day of the exam, take a small bottle of revision blend to apply to your pulse points when you start to feel tired.

Stimulating your Mind:

3 drops lemon

2 drops sage

3 drops geranium

2 drops frankincense

When you are feeling ill or overworked your mind tends to slow down and needs stimulation. By combining the ‘stimulating your mind’ blend with massage, you can make yourself feel more alert and avoid storing stress in your upper body.

1.       Massage the blend gently into your neck, shoulders and temples.  If you are at work, apply it to your pulse points at the wrists.  As you write or type the action will help the oil to circulate and stimulate your mind faster.

2.       If you have your own office space you might want to vaporiser to keep the atmosphere fresh.

Jetlag Blend:

1 drop eucalyptus

2 drops grapefruit

3 drops lemon

2 drops geranium

2 drops cypress

After a long flight you may feel mentally exhausted.  The best way to deal with this is to allow your body to rest and recover naturally.

1.       A relaxing bath is an ideal way to enjoy the beneficial effects of the essential oils.  The time out will also give your mind the opportunity to rest and clear out ‘bust thoughts’.

2.       You can use the blend as a preventative measure by applying to your pulse points while travelling, to minimise the effects of jetlag.

 

 

 

Your Health is your Wealth

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, according to World Health Organization (WHO). Indeed, health is wealth. Every now and then, it is important to remind ourselves that we need to take good care of ourselves. There is a reason to stay healthy. Being healthy can decrease developing medical conditions.

As the WHO defines health, remaining healthy means a holistic well-being. Caring for our minds is as important and crucial as caring for our bodies. One cannot be healthy without the other.

For this 2018, let us love ourselves more by considering these tips:

  • Visit your GP, eye doctor and dentist for regular check-ups
  • Be faithful in taking your medicines and also drink vitamins
  • Protect your skin especially from the sun
  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat healthy
  • Drink more water and fewer sugary drinks
  • Get enough sleep
  • Practice safe sex
  • Don’t smoke, limit alcohol intake and avoid drugs
  • Wash your hands – viruses are spread through contact
  • Practice self-care (no need to feel guilty)
  • Love yourself more and others too
  • Be friendly and be kind
  • Listen to others
  • Talk and share your feelings
  • Say “I love you,” “Thank you,” “Please” more often
  • Have fun – relax and rest
  • Call a friend
  • Learn something a new
  • Balance your time between work and play
  • Count your blessings and be grateful
  • Ask for help when needed

Essential Oils for Hair Loss

Treating Hair Loss with Essential Oils

A recent study has revealed that Aromatherapy with essential oils can help in the treatment of hair loss, alopecia and bald spots due to hormonal issues.

Massaging in certain essential oils along with carrier oils like jojoba or grapeseed daily for 7 months showed a significant improvements.

Here is the list of essential oils that can help:

Thyme Oil:

Often added to hair care products, thyme oil is known to rejuvenate hair follicles and thus prevents hair loss.

It is also used as an excellent skin Softener

Rosemary Oil

Rosemary essential oil is on the best oils for improving hair growth.  This oil increases cellular metabolism that stimulates hair growth thereby aiding in the treatment of baldness.

Lavender Oil

When lavender oil is massaged on the scalp it improves blood circulation and thus promotes hair growth and prevents hair loss.  Moreover it also moisturizes the scalp and balances sebum.

Cedarwood Oil

Cedarwood stimulates the hair follicles by increasing circulation to the scalp when massaged everyday into the scalp.

After the birth of both of my sons, I lost a lot of my hair resulting in bald patches at the front and back of my scalp.  I used this blend in a grapeseed carrier oil and within about 7 months my hair was so much more healthier and thicker.  My scalp was flake free and a lot calmer.

How To:

  1. Add 20ml of Grapeseed into a plastic BPA Free bottle then add 3 drops of each of the above oils.
  2. Massage into scalp for at least 5 min every evening if possible, or at least twice a week.  It is easier to do it in the evening time so yo can leave it in over night.
  3. To remove, just add your shampoo ideally a sensitive scalp brand, to dry hair and massage in to break down the oils in your hair, then wash as normal.  It may take two washes to remove all oils but do try not to over wash your hair, as this may result in further damage.

It’ time to look after yourself

One of my favorite parts of New Years is throwing away the old calendar and getting to start anew. All the hopes, dreams, and fantasies of a new life seem so tangible at New Years, don’t they?

Well, have I got news for you.

According to a survey by Reuters only a measly 3% of people actually follow through with their big New Year’s resolutions. And psychologists believe that this failure to follow through on bold and brilliant New Year’s resolutions by 97% of us can actually lead to diminished self esteem and lack of motivation in the months to come.

Does this mean that the remaining 97% of us who threw ideas in the till for positive change are all losers who cannot commit to anything? Absolutely not! 

One of the reasons I ceased making resolutions is quite simply because I don’t believe that there is one specific day so enlightened that you can change your entire world in the blink of an eye. I don’t believe that putting all your eggs in the New Year’s basket is necessarily the best way to make changes in your life. Truth is, you can blow in the winds of change any day of week, any month of the year, any hour of the day – if you so choose.

I DO believe that New Years should be a time of reflection. What was the last year like for me? What are the things I did right? What are the things I did wrong? Where is there room for improvement and positive change? What are some of the things I would like to continue to do? What am I proud of, and what do I wish I could change? Am I living the best life possible, and if not – what are three simple changes I could make to head in that direction?

To me, the New Year is about taking inventory and making a plan. Not just a firm resolution which you are certain to break; that you will never again sink your teeth into a sugary donut, or guzzle down an ice-cold Coca Cola on a hot summer day – but a plan that you will eat two less donuts per week, and only enjoy one soda every other day.

Why set yourself up to fail? The last thing you want to do is to feel like a deflated balloon.

Instead, start slowly by asking yourself the questions above. Write down your answers and take baby steps toward achieving your goals. The expression “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” rings true when it comes to the beginning of the New Year – and nothing in your life should be all or nothing. If it is, chances are you are setting yourself up to feel guilty or bad down the road.

What Does the Dandelion Flower Mean?
The common and humble Dandelion has a surprising amount of different meanings. The Dandelion means:

Healing from emotional pain and physical injury alike.
Intelligence, especially in an emotional and spiritual sense.
The warmth and power of the rising sun.
Surviving through all challenges and difficulties.
Long lasting happiness and youthful joy.
Getting your wish fulfilled.

We can not believe that the big man with the bright red suit will be visiting soon, it has been another amazing year here at the centre.
We had our open day on Saturday, it was such a lovely day meeting new people and showing them around their new Holistic Home.
Our opening hours for the Christmas season are:
Open as normal until Christmas Eve were we will close at 3pm 🙂 ,  then we are off with our loved ones until 10am on Tuesday the 2nd of January.

OPEN DAY

Tis the season to open our doors once again to all of you lovely people.
On saturday the 2nd of December from 2pm to 5.30pm we will be holding our annual Open day.
We will have all of our amazing therapists here to have a chat with about all of your Holistic and Health needs.
We will have some free taster yoga, sound healing, pilates, meditation and many more classes on offer for you.

Kinesio-taping – why you need this in your life!

So you may be wondering, ‘what is this Kinesio-taping thing all about’?

 

Well, put in simple terms, Kinesio-taping is the application of a specific form of tape/sports tape in order to facilitate the body’s natural healing process, providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.

 

The tape is applied to the skin by a specifically trained therapist, usually in conjunction with another therapy, massage for example.

The beauty of Kinesio-tape is it’s versatility. It is safe for all ages and can be left on the skin for several days.

It can be applied to enhance your Lymphatic Drainage treatment, whether you are having MLD (Manual Lymph Drainage) for treatment of Lymphedema, sports injuries or swollen ankles during pregnancy.

It’s also very beneficial for treating repetitive strain injuries, in conjunction with deep tissue massage.

And for pain management it can provide instant relief in many cases, a wonderful alternative to pain killers and anti-inflammatories (where appropriate).

 

As a therapist with many years experience in massage, MLD, yoga and nutrition, I am always learning and adding to my skill-set in order to provide the very best care for my clients. So it is my pleasure to be able to add this very effective technique to the list. On a case-by-case basis I can asses which combination of the above therapies is most suitable for your injury/ongoing issue.

Hi everyone! My name is Joanita. I am honoured to be your Certified Yoga Teacher!

As a Yogi, I am a seeker! I was attracted to yoga because a lot of things in the world didn’t make sense and yoga has always brought peace, calmness in me and above all it unites my mind and my body. Practicing Hatha yoga is really there to prepare the body and mind for the bigger work in life. My practice keeps my body in good health (now it’s like a fit vehicle ready for purpose).

My every day practice also helps me engage with my breath and feel the energy of life as it unfolds in each moment, on and off my mat.Everything is perfect as it is, there is no need to change anything and this is a big challenge. Rising to this challenge opens up to the promise of yoga – let it go and live life in the present moment, grounding in my natural state of being and with the world around me.

I am a proud mother of three beautiful children and as a qualified yoga teacher I am committed to my daily practice so that my teaching is always up to date. Education through yoga is caring for the development of our entire own being.

My class on Thursday morning will focus on alignment and maintaining good posture, with each class ending with a deep relaxation. Stretching will be subtle and effective while finding comfort in building strength and flexibility. If you are new to yoga or the idea of a gentle yoga class appeals to you, you have found your style!

River Holistic October Newsletter

Wow… this has to be one of my favorite months.  It’s a time for change and beauty, which is so fitting for us here at River Holistic.  We have transformed our centre into a beautiful tranquil space just for you.  We closed our doors for a week at the beginning of September to let our new chapter here at the Centre unfold.  We can’t wait for you to come in and experience the transformation.
We will be holding an open evening next month, so you can come in and meet the amazing team of therapists and teachers who I have the honour of calling my Holistic Family.  If you are interested in getting an exclusive invite to this then please give us a call and we will put your name down on the VIP list.  All will be revealed soon.
