What to Expect When You’re Expecting

Pregnancy Yoga With Sarah

My Classes always start with a 5-8 minute Pranayama exercise focusing on connecting with their bodies, their babies.

  • Three part breath
  • Straw breath
  • Alternative Nostril Breath
  • Square Breath
  • Cooling Breath etc.

I would usually finish the Pranayama section while still cross legged and move onto some cross legged over arm stretches, neck rolls, wrist rolls etc.I focus a lot on getting to know the pelvis and explaining the mechanism of labour and how different positions can assist getting an optimal birthing position.I focus on hip circles, pelvic tilts, pelvic alignment etc.

Seeing as the pelvic floor and jaw have such a huge connection a lot of my classes we do a lot of breathwork during our asanas to promote jaw relaxation and relaxing the pelvic floor for birth.

I focus on getting to know the pelvic floor and pelvic floor exercises – particularly with breathwork. E.G Cat/Cow – Inhaling and contracting the pelvic floor while arching back, exhaling – letting pelvic floor relax while coming to flat back position.

I like to also focus on breathing through challenging positions E.G Lunge/Deep Squat, and focusing on breath for average length of a contraction and then resting for 2 minutes in child’s pose. This works very well as when it comes to time of birth when surges are coming they can relate back.

I do a lot of focusing on a Drishti Point during a pose that requires balance e.g Tree pose. The feedback from women is that this was the most beneficial practice to have for labour.

I do a lot of educating women about different positions to labour in with Electronic Monitoring, with an Epidural or any other intervention.

It is inevitable that some women will have these interventions and I completely support their choices and I always like them to feel prepared for what can be optimum for them.

E.G with an epidural lying Left Lateral with a Peanut Ball.

  • Many women have reported back they felt in control of their labour even with these interventions.
  • I provide everyone with a booklet to go home with. This contains a brief summary of labour and the hormones involved. How we can affect our hormones and decrease adrenaline, different positions that they can bring to the hospital with them. Different acupressure points for pain relief, and some birth and pregnancy affirmations to focus on.

The Best Part –  Relaxation

I do a 15 minute guided meditation at the end in a lying down position – usually on their left lateral supported with pillows, blankets, bolsters.

I sometimes focus on baby and connecting with baby and sending love and light, sometimes I just focus on mum and filling her with energy and strength, I do a lot of healing and fear releasing meditations and sometimes I just do a good old Yoga Nidra.

Every woman leaves on a high and has a great night sleep!

OSHO active meditations were specifically and scientifically designed for the modern man and woman who find it difficult to be in silence. These meditations are set to music and have a series of stages that will bring about an  individual transformative experience. The meditations are 1 hour in duration.

Wk.1  6th of July 2017 OSHO Kundalini. This evening meditation consists of shaking, dancing, witnessing and silence

Wk.2. 13th of July 2017 OSHO Nadabrahma. This is a humming meditation were one gives and receives energy from existences followed by silence

Wk.3.  20th of July 2017 OSHO Chakra sounds. This meditation activates all the chakras in the body through the use of sound followed by silence

Wk.4.  27th of July 2017 OSHO Mahamudra this meditation is gentle, the whole body surrenders to its organic movement through Laithan, followed by giving and receiving to the Earth to replenish the energy

Wk.5.  3rd of August 2017 OSHO No Dimensions. This is s beautiful Sufi dance meditation followed by whirling and silence

Wk.6.  10th of August 2017 OSHO Devavani. This is a gentle meditation that brings you into a childlike state followed by gentle nonsense words called Laithan of the tongue followed by Latham of the body and silence.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is a yoga practice different from a regular flow class and most other styles of yoga. There are specific sets of exercises within the practice that work on moving and harnessing the energy within the body. To do this we use a combination of physical exercises (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), mudra (hand postures), meditation, chanting and relaxation to bring about a total balance in the body and mind. The specific set of exercises work on strengthening the nervous system, balancing the glandular system, purifying the body and calming the mind. Also within the practice are built-in moments of stillness where we sit quietly and awaken to our Self.  When we apply the technology of Kundalini Yoga to our bodies and minds it has the effect of uplifting us. It builds physical vitality and brings about an overall feeling of well being. The dynamics of Kundalini Yoga is what make it so enjoyable and fun but it will also add depth to an existing practice and to your life.

 

These classes are beneficial for beginners with no previous yoga experience and those with an already existing practice.

Aspects of Hypnoanalysis

Hypnoanalysis is a regression therapy. The idea is that we seek to find and remove the root cause of the anxiety or emotional state associated with a traumatic event from the past – usually from childhood. When found the root cause of a problem or symptom can then be resolved in the mind. The main difference between Hypnoanalysis  and other forms of talk therapy, is conventional therapies usually only deals with the presenting problem and do not get to the root of the problem.

Two of the most commonly used techniques in Hypnoanalysis.

One of the most powerful methods is Free Association pioneered by Sigmund Freud.The other Pin Point analysis which as the name suggests  is a direct route to the issue buried in the subconscious mind.

Free Association.

Free association works by allowing one memory to lead into another without any logical thought, interpretation, or intervention. Just allowing thoughts to drift along from one concept to another without attempting to make any sense of it whatsoever.  When working with issues that upset us the subconscious mind will do it’s best to protect us from those memories and will form a resistance towards the therapy. The hypnotherapist’s job is to help the client through that resistance to the truth. It sounds easy, and with the right client/therapist combination, it is easy and one of the most powerful forms of therapy.

Pin Point Analysis

Pin Point Analysis seeks the same end result but get’s there via a more direct route.  The hypnotherapist will use various techniques designed to access the originating cause, or at least a much earlier memory. From that memory, they go back further still, then further still, until the initial event has been accessed. Once there the event can be worked through until an understanding and enlightenment it reached.

Each method has its own particular strengths and weaknesses and a professional hypnotherapist should be familiar, practiced, and confident with both, and easily able to decide what is the best for any individual client.

Whichever method or a combination of both is used the concept is bring you to the Initial Sensitising Event. Usual this event has occurred in childhood. With these cases we are talking about a complete and lasting release by finding and removing originating causes.

Hypnoanalysis can be used to treat a wide range of conditions. The emotional material that comes up can be difficult to deal with. Some people are immensely resistant to the treatment as they feel vulnerable. A good hypnotherapist will be able to help you deal whatever arises.

Usually if anxiety is present it will be recommended that you go through the hypnoanalytical process. If together with your therapist you decide that there is a need to discover the underlying cause of the presenting problem and it is in your best interests, then know this… the results of Hypnoanalysis can often be profound and long lasting.

This class will be a unique fusion of gentle yoga and sacred sound to support you in raising your vibrational energy, whilst nurturing and enabling your unique healing process.  When we work with chanting mantras, singing bowls, solfeggio tones and gongs the resonance absorbs inwards supporting our cells to reprogram and remember their innate vibration.

Through use of sacred sound and movement we begin to shed the dense heavier energy of daily life, thus rising our vibrational energy, allowing us to effortlessly attract higher frequency people and experiences into our lives.

This combination of sacred practices have the potential to support you in making transformational change, in a gentle sustainable way.

5 easy and effective ways to know your most fertile days in the month

 

If you’re trying to conceive, knowing when you are most fertile during the month is something all women should know.

I have spent a lot of time studying the best times to get pregnant. I’ve also experienced how other women feel when we want to conceive but have to wait for their little miracle to finally arrive. One of the things that helped me manage my anxiety and wait for nature to take its course was to study my own body. With these methods, you’ll understand your body’s signs.

According to the experts, here’s how to know when you are the most fertile:

  1. Counting the days

Periods are usually repeated every 28 days. On the first day of your period, you’ll notice a significant blood flow, not just a few drops. It is important that you understand when your period actually starts because you may start counting the days too early, which could mean missing your fertility window.

In a 28-day cycle, your most fertile days are days 12, 13 and 14. Remember, the ‘fertile window’ is the six days leading up to and including ovulation, experts at Your Fertility point out.

Your body will presumably release the mature egg on the 14th day of your cycle, however, there are exceptions to this rule. Your body can ovulate twice in a month or it can ovulate much earlier or much later. Figuring out your individual cycle will help you know when your fertility window is.

  1. Change in vaginal discharge

Paying attention to changes in vaginal discharge is one of the most accurate ways to know if you’re at a fertile time of the month.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, as you approach ovulation, your body starts to produce more estrogen, which also produces a more fertile mucus. Just before the estrogen reaches its peak, your flow will look like a transparent and viscous substance (like an egg white). This is the most fertile flow, and the one that tells you that your body is about to release the egg.

  1. Basal temperature

According to WebMD, the temperature of your body rises slightly as the egg is released. Tracking your temperature (known as your basal body temperature) can help you know when your most fertile days.

Take your temperature with a thermometer under your armpit every morning before getting out of bed, then write it down on a chart every day so you know when it rises. It’s recommended that you do this every day for several months so you can find out when ovulation will occur.

  1. Using tests to detect ovulation

You can buy these tests at any pharmacy or large supermarket. They are one of the most accurate methods, but are also more expensive. Ovulation tests work by analyzing and measuring the amount of the luteinizing hormone (HL) in the urine. This hormone rises between 24 and 36 hours before ovulation occurs, giving you a head’s up to when your fertility window is approaching.  These kits come with several tests so you can get tested several days before you think you are going to ovulate.

  1. A pain in one of the ovaries

That little pain that you feel in the middle of your cycle can indicate that ovulation has already occurred. If you wait until this moment, chances are you will not get pregnant because your “fertile window” has already closed.

Remember:

Specialists recommend having intimacy at least every other day, especially in the days before ovulation. Your “most fertile window” is just before you ovulate, not the day you ovulated or after. While you may get pregnant if you have intimacy the day you ovulate, your chances increase if you do it earlier. Hopefully these tips can help you get to know your body better and help you and your partner expect your own bundle of joy sooner!

The Antidote to Fear

Whether you’re scared of change, success or failure… it’s worth remembering that fear is a universal experience.

The problem is that most people see fear as a sign of weakness.

Yet it’s a natural human response to pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone and trying something new (as well, of course, if your life is in danger and you’re being chased by a predator… even if you’re thinking of being chased by a predator).

There’s a belief that when you’re confident, fear will go away, However that isn’t the case.

It’s simply that your relationship with fear changes so you can handle it better.

Whenever I start a new project, teach a new group, or even sometimes when I’m seeing a new client for the first time, fear raises its head.

My fear says things like ‘Be careful… don’t go putting yourself out there! What if people don’t like what you have to say?’ or ‘Be careful… what if you can’t help this person? Maybe you’ll fail this time…’.

I tell my fear ‘Not Now!’ and return my focus back to my task.

If you’re feeling fear while you’re taking the action, use it to your advantage.

Fear can actually heighten performance as you’re more alert and focused – provided you claim power over your thoughts and drive the energy to where you need it most (not to running away and hiding from what scares you).

The antidote to fear is to see it for what it is, to recognise and acknowledge it – and move on in spite of it.

Because if you don’t take action, your fear increases and keeps you even more stuck.

So, if there’s something you want to do that you’re being held back by from fear, know that the fear will subside once you’ve taken action.

Homeopathy for Colds, Coughs and Flu

If you don’t fancy another few months of antibiotics and cough medicines, why not try some of the following Homeopathic remedies:

Colds and Flu

Aconite 30c – No. 1 Remedy for nipping colds in the bud. Useful in the early stages of colds, fevers, sore throats and the inflammatory stage of other illnesses. Sudden onset often after exposure to cold. Much sneezing with pain at root of nose. Dry mucous membranes. Worse: evening or night and for touch. Better: fresh air and rest.

Arsenicum Alb 30c. – Catches cold easily, burning, watery nasal discharge alternating with dryness. Frequent sneezing without relief. Very chilly and shivery. Nostrils become sore and red and nose feels blocked alternating with watery discharge. Worse: change of temperature, cold, damp and after midnight. Better: heat and warm applications, hot drinks.

Euphrasia 30c Profuse bland nasal discharge, running red eyes with burning tears and frequent sneezing. Burning sore throat and eyes sensitive to light. Worse: light, in the evening. Better: during the day when up and about.

Eupatorium perf.30c – Chill followed by heat and sweating. Intense aching of bones as if broken or bruised. Great thirst for cold drinks. Worse: movement, cold, open air. Better; Resting, warmth, sweating.

Gelsemium 30c – No 1 remedy for flu. Dull, sluggish with heavy looking eyes and dull headache usually at the back of the neck. Chills and shivering up and down the spine. Aching muscles in limbs and back. Burning throat. Colds and flu usually comes on gradually. Worse cold, damp weather. Better: after urination.

Pulsatilla 30c Chilliness even in a warm room, nasal catarrh, bland and thick. Dry mouth with no thirst. Painful headache with changing, shifting symptoms. Worse in a warm room, after lying down. Better: in the open air.

Rhus Tox 30c – Very restless with aching in all muscles and stiffness. Just cannot get comfortable. Heat alternating with chills, pain in head and eyes with red face. Worse: night, first movement. Better: warmth

COUGHS

Aconite 30c- Sudden onset often after exposure to cold air. Dry croupy cough with runny nose and sneezing. Irritation of respiratory tract, hoarseness/dryness of throat. Worse: cold dry winds, talking and deep breathing. Better: lying on back.

Ant Tart 30c – Noisy, rattling, loose cough as if chest full of mucus. Young children or elderly with cough too weak to expel the mucus. Worse: night, especially from 10 pm until after midnight, lying flat, eating. Better sitting up and after expectoration

Bryonia 30c – Dry hacking cough in the evening and night without sputum. Spasmodic cough shaking the whole body, pain in the head an abdomen from coughing, better for holding the painful part. Dryness of all air passages with thirst. Worse: movement, deep breathing, lying in bed. Better: fresh air and for pressure of painful part.

Drosera 30c – Spasmodic, dry irritating coughs like whooping cough. Barking cough which is dry in the evening and loose in the morning. Sputum is yellow/green, bitter or offensive, bloody or pus like. Retching after spasmodic cough. Worse: after midnight, lying down, singing, laughing and drinking. Better: holding chest.

Spongia 30c – Barking, dry croupy cough with wheezing and rasping. Great dryness of all air passages. Scanty expectoration tasting salty, looser in the morning but no mucous rattle in the chest. Cough sounds like a saw being driven through a pine board. Sensation as if had to breath through a dry sponge. Worse: warm room, talking before midnight. Better: swallowing, especially warm drinks, sitting up and bending forward.
